As a vacation home owner, you are responding to inquiries via email pretty often.  And those responses are always the same.  Either you have availability and you provide the renter a quote.  Or you don’t, and you let them know that.  Plus, you want to put your name, phone number, and listing website address at the bottom.

Up until now I have used the Firefox extension Signature, which allowed you to store “canned respones” on your computer and just right click and insert a response in an email.  I have “responses” for inquiries, whenever I email a rental contract, whenever I receive a payment, etc.  You get the idea.

The problem with that is you have to use Firefox and the responses are stored on your computer.  If you travel and use another computer, you are out of luck.

Gmail users, I present to you canned responses.  Now you can keep all these generic responses inside your gmail account.  Hooray!  Now, wherever you are, if you are logged into gmail you can respond to your inquires quickly and easily.  Good job Gmail team!

Great idea.. I was setting up automated responses and after a bit of playing I was able to come up with a formula that should only apply to new inquiries from http://www.findvacationrentals.com

    I set the filter criteria to subject=”FindVacationRentals.com Listing 7552 Inquiry” Doesn’t have=”Re:”

I have the filter automatically apply the Label Beach and send a confirmation reply.

There is a great tip on the Google Canned Response discussion group on how to automatically delete the Automated reply’s from your conversations so they don’t add clutter or take up space.
